When I got married, I became a home owner. It’s kind of a sweet deal to go from renting to instant home ownership. I know, I know. Home ownership has its drawbacks and it comes with much responsibility, but really and truly the very best element of home ownership is seasonal decor. We have been married for almost a year, and it has taken us this long to really get in gear. So, now that fall is upon us, I am decorating with seasonal arrangements around the house. I grew up in a home filled with a lot of fresh flowers and there is nothing I love more. However, buying new flowers each week can get expensive. So, I have drawn inspiration from a variety of places, and come up with several centerpieces and household arrangements that do not require fresh flowers. I was so excited I really wanted to share them!

Many moons ago my mother gave me a straw scarecrow. It looked very harvesty and very autumnal. I honestly have no idea where it is, but I long to have a large bundle of straw wrapped in twine. This wedding blog does it in one of my favorite ways:

A million years ago when I was a teacher, one of students brought in a gourd for a class prop. The gourd was quite large and it eventually became a kind of class mascot. As a tribute to my class and that gourd, I want to arrange lots of mini gourds. Perhaps with dried cranberries or nuts? Here are some of my favorites:

Last week, I was watching a fall decorating spot on The Chew. Clinton Kelly showed viewers how to prepare for a fall party on a budget. I kicked myself that I had not thought of his idea previously – it is so simple and yet so elegant looking. Just use dry beans, corn, rice or any other such items lurking in your pantry, layer them in a trifle bowl or a large vase and insert a large pillar candle.

Celebrate fall with these crafts!

I’m so excited to integrate as many fall items into our living space as possible. The plan is to transport everyone who enters our home into an autumnal world of delight and it goes into action tomorrow!
