“Don’t be fooled,” I tell myself. No matter how many times my husband comments that he does not care about something, I know it’s not true. It’s not that he’s lying. It’s just that he has yet to realize he cares about it. You see if I say to him, “I’m going to put the tea in this drawer.” He interrupts with a wave of a hand saying, “I don’t care. It doesn’t matter to me.” A few days later when is looking for the tea, he realizes he indeed does care very much.

The same theme applied to our wedding registry. Z was adamantly opposed to the registry, wanted nothing to do with it and suggested we avoid the whole thing. I gave my argument for a registry and stated I would be wholly responsible for it. He breathed a sigh of relief and did not think about it again. That is until he realized what I had done. I registered for my ideal kitchen which I assumed was perfectly acceptable since I am the cook. Well, once again, he realized that he did very much care. You see I registered for three different sets of china (everyday, white, and fine) and many, many different types of glasses (you never know when you might need to have a mini martini).

Saturday marked six months of wedded bliss. In this short time, we have learned much about each other, improved how we communicate and possibly (here’s hoping) figured out the temperature thing.  However, we are still trying to figure out what does and does not matter to the other person. Thankfully, we know what matters most, but the little things, the mundane are what can remain a mystery.
